(23,240 posts)Still teach the skill to the kids, but they're not really required to actually finish one now. And now they don't do the diamond braid that we had to do to make our lanyards, which is faster than the square weave they do now. So I think kids lose that sense of actually doing and accomplishing something--it's more busywork to them, not doing something to have something. It's kinda sad.

(16,965 posts)I still have my homemade spool knitter. And I found an antique one shaped like a costumed man and brightly painted. My homemade knitter is easier to use.
When my brother was climbing a tree in our yard, the teen girl next door offered to make a gum wrapper chain as long as the height he climbed. Which never happened
