The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThank you for having me here. Allow me to introduce myself.
I'm a Democrat. Period. I so happen to be angry, so I found my way here. I'm vehemently anti-Trump. As in, he is a one-man/family constitutional crisis after another. I'm not here to do the intra-mural primary type stuff. We have to be united, especially right now. God only knows where we are headed, but we are clearly in uncharted waters. That's where I come from, and what I'm here for.
I have lived in the Midwest and the Mid-South, and the Deep South. I have relatives in and a strong affinity for California, too, and if I ever had the chance to move out there I surely would take it. I despise the way the south votes as a bloc for many decades. I wish things could change there, and I'm not sure why that is so.
At this moment, tough, I feel we must be engaged on every level. 2018 couldn't be more important. If we survive that long.

(624 posts)First time in my life I've been actually frightened for our country. I thought Bush was it, but somehow I survived that debacle. Now this. 10x worse.

Hey, we were all noobs here at one point. I was terrified to step up once I joined. But this place made me feel comfortable enough to find a backbone. You're among friends and empathizers here.

(14,487 posts)I hope you enjoy it. This place has been a refuge for me for many, many years. It's hard to follow the constant horrible actions taking place by the party in power, the Lounge is a nice place to chill and have some fun.
Peace

(4,033 posts)Much of the low-info, rural South votes as a bloc for whatever party is the most racist. The haven't gotten over the Civil War. The South was solid Dem until 1965, when LBJ pushed through the Voting Rights Act. At which point the GOP saw the opportunity and started dog-whistling like crazy and the South swung right into line and has voted White/GOP ever since.
And, you know this, but don't wait until 2018. Get involved at the grass roots right now. We Dems got complacent and we got screwed. But, We Persist!

(624 posts)just because I abhor the politics so many hold.
Thank you, and I will be as involved as I can be.

(365 posts)This fabulous place has saved the wee bit of sanity I have left in this horror show. Down in the mid-south myself. Trumpskys all around. But there are lots of old and young hippies living here in the mountains so I am surrounded by folks in the resistance as well. Look forward to your contributions on DU!

(13,200 posts)And thanks for the introduction/background.
I wish we'd all go on the record here on DU about why we are Democrats.
I'm living the Blue life in a deep red rural area, and (paraphrasing R.E.M.) I feel fine.
BTW here is my "why am I a Democrat" post. If you're interested:

(53,410 posts)We may even end up with a country far better than it's ever been.
We should never think we would have made it to our true potential without strife, revolution or people like Trump to get us reacting.
