I just bit my lip. Why is it you KNOW you are going to bite your lip but you can't stop it???

There's a part of your mind sending out various "chew" messages and once a malformed message enters the pipeline there's no stopping it. It's like pushing the "send" button on an email, or dropping a letter in the mailbox.

Ouch.

But then I think, no that's silly... just before I bite my lip again.

So many times!

Lip or inside of my mouth. Of course it gets a bit swollen making it more susceptible to being chomped on again. The worst is when it's healing after a day or two and you go back to square one after another accidental bite.

...and I've got the scars and photographs and unpaid medical bills to prove it.

Not much secret, I've posted a few of my misadventures here on DU.

once you bite it, you will continue to bite it until your subliminal nervous system learns to chew differently.

Been there, done that.
