The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHow many people do you have on "ignore"?
Just wondering how much you make use of the DU ignore function, if at all?
At what point do you pull the trigger?
I have six people on ignore. Some of them I bumped into in multiple threads and they were offensive/ignorant enough that I was turned off. I debated a few of them to confirm my feelings. Got nowhere.
I haven't "alerted" any posts as of yet, however.

Only one is always left when I clear my Ignore list. That person is noted for their vitriol and is just not worth reading. They seem to prefer attacking fellow DUers than attacking Republicans.
I think I will clear my Ignore list now - except for that one.

(70,762 posts)from those discovered. Over the years I have *shocked* by asking some to put ME on Ignore. It's amazing that some dear members just can't stay away from posts they don't like and are compelled to voice their almighty contempt, usually in the first (and only) Reply. Most irritatingly, my erratic throwaway posts get immediate flaming and brazilian numbers while what I spend 45 minutes of insight & craft on (yes, I *do* have some of these) are *immediately* sunk to oblivion.

(5,272 posts)triggered and protecting themselves from exposure to certain things. I've seen a lot of people bother to post that they are putting me on ignore because I proffered an argument that they disagreed with(and clearly didn't sit well with them), and it was very clear that the intent was to get that last dig in without the opportunity for reprisal...and that's fine. The point isn't wining an argument, its discussing these issues, and at least that's a benefit to me because this person is signaling that he or she is not here to actually have a debate over these matters, and that I was wasting my time.
I just don't follow entirely what they get out of it.
I also don't alert posts directed at me or anybody, although I can understand the need to do so. I would rather let them stand for all to see, and simply challenge or rebut them.

(9,973 posts)...zero. None. I do recall being accused of being "a member of the Bernie group" once. I had joined no group but did see it was my post popular group to post in, once looking at my profile. I was later banned from the Bernie group I supposedly belonged to for some reason I did not quite understand. I received a notification of the ban and it said I was not going to be able to post there. Quite soon, I checked it and was able to post... I always stated I would support the primary pick enthusiastically - and did just that for the national vote winner - Hillary!

I look at my online interactions this way. If you talk to me in a way that would have me back away from you slowly in real life, then you go on the ignore list.

I actually posted this last week thinking it was funny at the time and didn't know my post failed.
I have another forum where I have continually placed nasty people on ignore, but here I think I only did it once or twice, at some extreme thing or perceived by ME to be way far over the top.
Lately, the general tone in the Other Room there has stooped to criminally sick and disgusting, and I do not have the time to eradicate all the extremists from my view so I just go there less and pick which topics to view, I really want to understand why people think the way they do, but I suspect many of them have never questioned themselves on anything.
As I heard 'on the radio' this morning,
'Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion, but no one is entitled to their own personal set of facts.'

(46,179 posts)before the 2016 primaries, it was zero. I didn't have any trouble ignoring people without using the "ignore" function.
Since the '16 primaries? 73. And it could be more. Anyone who wants to pretend that there is not a very deep party divide is fooling themselves. I made a decision at some point last year not to feed the bullying and hate, and a long ignore list is the result. As it is, I don't spend much time here at all anymore, or it would probably be longer. I still like to check in on Sundays for lolcats and other lighter things.

(54,447 posts)I have seen over the years that I have been ignored by various members. I think the last time I looked was over five years ago, so I don't even know if that's still the case. I suppose that people who use it feel a need for it. I sometimes get replies or see posts that strike me as stupid. But I can just as easily click to find what the weather will be like in Vanuatu tomorrow or go squeeze some blood oranges (they're in season again!) for a glass of great juice. If they're not worth replying to, then they're not worth enough attention to ignore. Besides, there's always the possibility they'll post something I find worthwhile in the future. No harm in leaving the possibility open, anyway.
True Dough
(17,337 posts)if others have you on ignore? Obviously if you comment on their posts repeatedly and they never reply, then there's a good chance they have blacklisted you. But is there a formal way to check?
DFW
(54,447 posts)There was a way to find out if someone had you on ignore. I don't even know if this is still the case. There is no one whose posts I comment on repeatedly, unless you count cheerleading posts by Nance Greggs and California Peggy, both who are friends outside of DU as well as in here. I don't live in this place. My day job takes me to a different country every day. Maybe some people have that much free time (I'm jealous), but I certainly don't.

They were Trumpian in their mentality inasmuch as they have no grasp whatsoever or reality and are prone to asserting their ignorance as truth.
I started using the "ignore" button only a year or so ago, and it reduces my stress, inasmuch as ignorance has a way of raising my blood pressure.
It's not like they (the people I have on ignore) are going to become educated, wise or intelligent, so why bother reading what they have to say? It's a waste of time.
