Any denture wearers out there? I have questions.

On Tuesday I will be getting my teeth extracted so I can get dentures.
It's been a struggle with my teeth for a few years and it finally came to this.
I want to know many things about dentures. How long do they take to fit right?
Can I eat most foods without slippage? Should I remove them while sleeping?
What about care and cleaning of the dentures?
Any information or tips would be appreciated.
I'm nervous about being toothless.

4. Not (full) dentures, but partials:

A lifetime of being a wuss about dental tinkering ended up being a mouthful of *neglect* - so a year ago it turned into laser (something or other, deep cleaning?) and a couple of extractions. The plan (theirs, not mine) was supposed to be for (implants?), but all this was over a couple to three months and the dental dude and his staff gathered from my body language that I just wasn't in with it and just was waiting for a convenient stopping place to bail out. So he proposed the partials, which had the added attraction of cutting the total expense in half.

The actual experience of daily use has been of becoming what everything revolves about. After the morning routine of diabetes testing, pills, coffee and cereal - *then* comes the flossing, brushing, mouthwashing and putting on the partials. I've gotten to the point of saying, my day BEGINS when I've got the partials on.

The extractions have made room for there to develop room for gaps, such that toothpick and flossing are a necessity after eating, and I remove the partials for eating and only replace them after the clean-up.

The final ritual of the day is to stash away the partials in a lidded container with hot water and Efferent overnight. In the morning I rinse the container and fill it with hot water plus anti-bacterial dishwashing soap for the day.

6. Lost most of my teeth in a car accident...

Go for the most expensive option....They will fit right as soon as the swelling from the extractions goes down.
I cut my apples now and also cut the corn off the cob...I don't chew gum and I stay away from candy like gummy bears.
I always sleep without my dentures.
I use store brand of efferdent...soak them all night and they're clean.

I was young (just 38) when I lost my teeth...it was traumatic. I'm always amazed that nobody notices--and I don't tell them!

7. I've had mine for about twenty years.

When I first put them in, I remember my mouth feeling SO full... like a rolled up sock had been stuck in my mouth. I was sure they hadn't been sized properly. But that sensation passed relatively quickly as best I can remember. Just don't be alarmed if that's your initial response.

I quickly gave up on the lowers. They just never stayed "glued" in and would start wobbling around after a few hours of putting them in. I have always used Polygrip... never tried another solution, nor consulted with my dentist to see if there was something better to keep them in place. So, as mentioned above, I cut apples before I eat them and can't really eat corn on the cob. Nuts are out of the question, but I'll run them through my mini food processor when the cravings get strong.

I've never had any problems with the uppers. I just pop them in water with some Polydent every night. I never sleep with them.

You'll be able to eat piping hot pizza without having to worry about burning the roof of your mouth!

8. Had mine since 2007

I'm only 52 now, so I was young, too, when I got them. I had basically let my teeth rot out of my mouth because I couldn't afford the braces/oral surgery needed to fix them. I use Polident adhesive upper and lower. I lost about 40 pounds after I got them, had to have them relined because they were loose and made me gaggy. I don't sleep with them in, use a 3-minute cleaner before putting them back in. Once the glue is good, I can eat anything, too, in small bites.

11. my mom has broken 2 top plates.

First time was in 1975 trying to chew a piece of frozen penny candy. Since then we were on welfare and there was barely enough $ to feed the 5 of us, it was years b/4 she could replace them, it was pretty traumatic for her and being teenagers then, I know one brother was embarrassed by that . She broke her second top plate in 2015, she tried supergluing the pieces together, it does not work. FTR, I do not know the age of the plates.

13. My thoughts are with you. I have litereally spent 10's of thousands of dollars to deal with every

imaginable issue. I actually could own a condo by now. All of my siblings have had the same issues. I've wondered what the Hell did my mother eat/drink while she was pregnant with us. I'm happy you're doing this for yourself.
