This song is perhaps the most unexpectedly awesome collaboration ever.

See if you can still find "The White Room" by the KLF out there.

I'd like to know some of the other singers they debated and why they selected Tammy. It's one of those genius pairings that do not come along very often.

He said that due to their reputation (and that 60s country was massively uncool in the early 90s), people assumed it was some sort of ironic statement, but the truth was more prosaic - They (especially Bill Drummond) loved Wynette, and took advantage of their chart success to work with a musician that they were big fans of.

It reminds me of another great collaboration - Dusty Springfield and the Pet Shop Boys (What Have I Done to Deserve This?)

This song is 20 years old??!!?? Next you'll be telling me I'm getting old!

A friend introduced me to Loreena back in the mid/late 80s. I've been a fan ever since.

I've never seen her live, but would love to do so. She's coming over this way next year (I live in The Netherlands) and she's got a couple of concerts here. I can also skip over to London or Hamburg. So, that's my New Years Resolution for 2017! See Loreena McKennitt live.

Thank you for posting this.

Believe it or not, the first time I heard it was in an episode of Baywatch, when it first went into syndication. From 1991:

They had a huge local following in Seattle in the 90s, but never really went anywhere nationally.
