Fuck pumpkin spice. And pumpkin too.

I do not like pumpkin pie.
Call me a commie, but I don't.

I put pumpkin in the same category as tapioca pudding.
I mean I'll eat it.
If it's served as desert after a meal at a friend's house.
To be polite.

Yeah, it's sweet.
But I'd really rather have a chocolate something.

And now pumpkin spice shit is EVERYWHERE.
Coffee?
Really?
Milkshakes?
jeez

I like squash - just had acorn squash as part of my dinner - but I don't like it sweet. Bake it plain, add some butter and salt and it is great. Same for sweet potatoes and yams - but this time of year people want to glaze them with sugar and put marshmallows on top. Anything with that much sugar or with marshmallows is a dessert and not one I want to eat!

Once a year Winn Dixie ( and probably Public) carry large jars of mincemeat filling, with or without brandy.
$ 6.00 or so ....oooomph.
But after the holidays they go on sale and I swoop in.

Meanwhile.....instead of pumplin, which Mr. Dixie also does not like, I will splurge on Key Lime Pie.

But I hear ya that pumpkin candles, ice cream, douches, aftershaves, and other things is taking the damn stuff a bit too far.

Pumpkin coffee should be a capital offense.

The crap caught her eye at Trader Joe's. The cereal was shaped like over-sized Cheerios. Hard as rocks and never did soften up in milk. I suffered through the bowl, but the cereal milk, you know, that wonderful milk left over after the cereal is gone, wasn't half bad.

You can do enough to squash to make it palatable.
Sautéed with enough onions and garlic, it's passable.

Boiled?
Right up there with zucchini.
Tasteless.

I think it was Blue Moon. It tasted like raw green pumpkin. I couldn't taste the spice. It wasn't as sweet as regular beer.

However, the Blue moon Cinnamon Horchata beer was yummy and sweet.

But i can see why people don't like pumpkin pie and why so many people slather on the whipped cream.

That being said, i guess i can see how pecan pie is too sweet for some.

We never did it either, as i'm Chicago folk, too. But, i know folks from GA and LA, and that's a regular thing for them.

Unfortunately, my mom had dementia and couldn't remember the recipe. I would ask her, "How did you make this?" She would always reply, "I don't know". So, it was a pass-along thing that she couldn't pass-along. Sigh............

My grandmother, who was a professional cook, told me that vinegar was the secret ingredient. I don't believe my mom used corn syrup. Her pie was never runny.

That Southerns got homemade cornbread right too.

The Northern kind is too sweet for my taste and the consistency of cake.

I like the coarse kind with not a hint of sugar taste.

I'm a pumpkin lover, so I bought some pumpkin beer last year and it tasted nasty. It tasted like raw green pumpkin without spices. It might as well I have bought unripe squash beer. There is also pumpkin soda, which I didn't try.

Pumpkin ice cream has been around a long time. I remember buying a double cone from Baskin-Robbins in 1970.

I think pumpkin everything/everywhere is pretty much marketing genius. Wish, I would have thought of it.
