I'm in my forties, and therefore tragically unhip. Like everyone else with an Internet connection, I see WTF and OMG all over the place. I always assumed that when spoken, the fully-qualified phrases were used: what the fuck, and oh my god. But I've heard my high school-aged kids just using the initials: double-you tee eff, and oh emm gee. Is this commonplace? Is the full pronunciation uncommon? Is it just a Northern California thing? thanks.

(12,530 posts)Now I know. Now I'm trying to imagine Hunter S Thompson uttering the syllables, "double-you tee eff". I'm not having any success in envisioning this.

(19,378 posts)I hear the abbreviations spoken all the time. Just their slang du jour.
I'm just glad they still use "cool". I'd be in a world of hurt if they didn't.
