OK, who else this summer engaged in the guilty pleasure of going to the county fair?

I'll testify: I went and I loved it! Every year, my wife and I trek out to the Pomona Fairplex to attend the LA County Fair. It's great for the reasons every county fair is great - watching people get sick on crazy spinning rides, seeing lots of animals, eating deep-fried decadent deliciousness - and a whole lot more. There were some really great exhibits this year for us to see, both for art and sports. We also like going there to do wine tasting, even if we don't always like the wine!

So how many people here enjoy going to the county fair each summer? What do you enjoy most about it?

The pulled pork I can understand, the fried snicker okay, no elephant ears? no deep fried dough? The building that has AC & has the butter cow (actually the best butter cow substitute was John Glenn in astronaut gear a few years back) has some of the best chocolate & strawberry ice cream ever at the state fair.

I may have to try the deep fried dough one of these years! Also, I've been wanting to try deep fried butter and deep fried guacamole. My favorite that we've actually tried: deep fried Reese's! So smooth and gooey!

Thanks for letting me know about the ice cream. And thanks for reading!

And I dare say half the art on our walls (that is, art from people we are not related to...) is from artists we've discovered at the fair.

My wife and I would rather spend whatever "disposable" income we have encouraging local artists than buying the latest consumer toys.

I can't help it. When I was growing up my parents were artists with day jobs. Retired now, they are full time artists.

My wife is an artist with a day job.

Next year I'm going to the Grant County Fair in Washington, for that most unique fair food, the Spaceburger.

Turns out there's a thing called "Fair Food" and no matter what insane concoction you consume, none of it counts!

Actually, I only went because I had tickets for The B52s and OC Fair tickets were included.

But lord did I eat some weird food, and almost certainly the very best pulled-pork sandwich I've ever eaten.

watching those ingenious dogs round up sheep, geese, and goats and put each group in separate pens -- it blows my mind every time.

And yeah, the food's a big part of it too. FRENCH FRIES.

I live in a county of only 60,000 so our fair is small and only four days. I went to it three of the four days.
