I strongly recommend that anyone who ever liked Jethro Tull check out Thick as a Brick 2. It just came out yesterday and is one of the best that Ian Anderson has done in a long time.
It is an instant classic that I am really loving! I'm listening to it with my 17-year old daughter who I have taken to two Tull concerts.
God, I love this so much and just had to gush.

(10,129 posts)Amazing how, aside from Ian Anderson's vocal tone (which changed after surgery back in the mid-80s), in a lot of ways this sounds like it could have been written and recorded right after the original TAAB. I admit, I was a little skeptical at first, especially since he decided to record it as a solo album instead of as a Tull disc, but the musicians he got are stellar. Particularly the guitarist - if I hadn't already known it wasn't Martin Barre, I would have never even guessed it. Always a huge risk to go back and try to revisit something as iconic and adventurous as TAAB, (see Operation: Mindcrime 2), but I think Anderson pulled it off brilliantly.

I'll check it out!

(2,404 posts)This is the first I have heard of this. I consider myself to be a huge Tull fan and this comes as great news. I just hope that it is as good as you have indicated. I can't imagine trying to follow up something as iconic as TAAB...Thank you so much for posting.
