Trying to eat the least processed foods I can get. But I do hit fast food every once in awhile and god knows what the hell is in that garbage.

Peace

my health is actually better than it would be because I am so damn lazy - the junk food is all at least 20 miles away!

one little trick I have been trying when I go for that stuff is remembering the old days when a serving was on the order of a small drink, regular burger (dollar menu to boot!) and at least at McDs, I SWEAR the small fries are BETTER than the larger portions.

living in the past in terms of that kind of food - small portions and as an occasional treat keeps the cravings at bay and still allows the ease and "fun" of it.

have to get out of the "bargain" mindset - oh a half gallon of soda for the price of a small? gotta get the big one right? that can be a hard one to quit if you are a cheapskate like me but the smaller sandwich (or cutting a bigger one in half) helps save a little money so it balances out.

I was in the mood for a hamburger - but the smallest patty they had was a third of a pound. That is ridiculous. A quarter pound hamburger is more than I want or need. I'd prefer a two or three ounce hamburger and once it's dressed with bun, lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon and condiments, that is a full meal for me.

I ended up getting a BLT - but they piled on so much bacon it was too much.

The servers tend to push the larger more expensive meals so their tips go up. Because I'd rather eat a smaller meal and seldom drink anything other than water, I tip well above the 20% average - the servers do just as much work for my cheaper meal so they deserve a higher percentage!

But when the amount of bacon weighs more than everything else on the plate, including the fries, THAT is TOO MUCH!

I pulled out about half the bacon and my husband ate it so it didn't go to waste.

although I go to dine-in restaurants even less than junk food drive-throughs.

I don't mind a big burger if it is a real one grilled over "flames" - what we do at home are probably close to a third or half lb, but burgers in the fry pan are smaller. and I am as likely to eat it without bread as with. one of my faves is to drown it in a bowl of beans and add fresh chopped onion.

ah that made me think of MFM. somebody (especially me) mentioning beans would usually generate some kind of amusing reply.

But I limit my protein servings to 3-4 ounces usually, then fill up on vegetables and fruit. So if I'm eating beans with it, I want a smaller meat patty.

I've become mostly vegetarian, or I guess you'd say "flexitarian." I eat meat once in a while, but I don't buy it for home except once in a great while. I feel a lot better since I quit eating so much junk food, but every once in a while I have to have something that's not good for you. No sodas, though, I gave those up two years ago and haven't had one since. Best thing I ever did. I love water!
