Good Samaritan stories

My wife lost her wallet for the first time in her life on Saturday. Of course with the Labor Day long weekend, there was a lot of anguish over the hassle of cancelling and replacing credit cards and a bank card and her health cards and her driver's license, and the potential loss of $300 in cash (she doesn't normally carry that much around with her, but she had recently some some second-hand items).

Then today she received a call from the post office that her wallet had been placed in a mail box, and they had it at one of their postal outlets, ready for her to pick up. Everything was still contained inside, including the cash!

We have no idea who did this good deed, but we're happy that an honest individual was the one to stumble upon her wallet. There are still a lot of good people in this world.

Between my wife and I, we have found one wallet and one purse over the years. We returned them to their rightful owners in both cases. I would never hesitate to do that, and would never dream of keeping any of someone else's money. I also pulled over on the side of the highway once and changed a tire for two women with a flat since neither of them could budge the lug nuts (they weren't sure of the next steps anyway).

Have you been a Good Samaritan or had someone else save your bacon?

In the 80s we were young and poor (now we are old and poor but that's beside the point). One day she was leaving a a Chilis where she had had lunch with a friend and right by her car door was a roll of money totaling $180.00. She knew it wasn't hers so she brought it back inside and asked to speak with the manager. She said she thought it might have been a deposit or something that fell out of their money bag (it had some kind of receipt wrapped around it with a rubber band).

The manager said nope, it wasn't theirs but he'd put it in his safe and see if anyone came to claim it. 2 weeks later she got a call from the manager and he said nobody had claimed it so it was hers. This part might be a little selfish of me but our kids had a much better christmas that year than they would have.
