Just had my doggie put to sleep....

A 14-y/o smooth-haired collie, had arthritis (could barely walk, had great difficulty getting up from a prone position), going deaf and blind, bad teeth. Hard to say goodbye to a best friend, but it was time.

He's not in pain any more.

A true *Beagle Scout*--Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, sometimes Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, always Brave, sometimes Clean, and Reverent (although sometimes he looked at me like a pork chop!)!

RIP, Buster D. Brown Dog. A better friend no man ever had.

They count on us to take care of them when the pain and trouble can no longer be borne.

May he rest in peace...

(should've done it three months ago. But I'm dealing with a job that takes too many hours, plus elderly parents that need more than a small share--and I wasn't sure I could do it, to be honest.)

She started out smart when we got her at one year old, and only got smarter.

When she got a spinal tumor and paralysis set in, I swear she could project what she wanted into my brain, just by looking.

She let me know when it was time, and she was in pain, and it was still one of hardest things to do, knowing how aware and alert she was.

My thoughts are with you today.

It's never easy. Amazes me how we bond with our animal friends--and how they bond with us. There is a profound lesson there.

I've lost a few that were great friends to me and I've had a lot a more than my share of great friends.

Maybe he is playing like a puppy ... just over the rainbow bridge.

It hurt like hell the morning I kissed my Byron goodbye. One hummingbird flew along with us as we carried him out the car for his last ride. I should have taken him in a day or two sooner but it was the weekend when we knew it was time. I slept on the floor next to him on his last night. I couldn't stop crying for months.

back atcha! Never easy to lose our dear ones--surprising how deep the attachment can be.
Buster actually wasn't my dog (he was my dad's), but I was *his* human. I was the one who fed him (mostly), played with him, walked him around the farm, let him into the basement and talked to him when the thunder scared him, slept with him (he on a dog-bed on the floor, me on the sofa), etc. So, yeah, I'm gonna miss the big lug!

the hardest part of having an animal friend is having to let them go, especially when you have to assist the passage.

Peace.

I still cry when I think of putting my son's dog down a year after he died. It was incredibly painful because he loved her so much. She died in my arms. If there is life after death he was there when she passed.

"The worst thing about getting old is the loved ones lost along the way."

I can not imagine a life for myself without a furbuddy by my side. I am 62, I've had both kittys and dogs and each one eventually tore out a piece of my heart when they passed. I now have a one and a half year old female red-nosed female pitt-bull named Rosie. She takes me for walks twice per day and bike rides once or twice per week. She has been a great help in getting me through the passing of my old Molly.

Buster was the NICEST doggie any guy ever had! Unlike most dogs who barge in and start wolfing it down as soon as the food hits the plate, he ALWAYS waited until I was done dishing it out for him! Mr. Politeness!
