(38,000 posts)Trivia: Chris Carter cites The Night Stalker as an inspiration behind The X-Files. He wanted to have McGavin to appear as Kolchak on the show but, instead he was cast as Arthur Dales, the original FBI agent in charge of the X-Files.

(16,379 posts)I've been re-watching the series on Netflix the last couple of nights. I loved the series way back when and am now revisiting. It's so much fun. The plots are all the same and the monsters are cheesy looking but it's still a kick to watch. Kind of mindless.

(60,010 posts)I loved Darren McGavin. Was so happy to see him in A Christmas Story, and to remember him from this series.
Just checked Netflix disc offerings and have put the whole series in my queue.
Ahhh...memories.

(14,275 posts)I was immediately hooked. Then I tried to rewatch a few years ago on Netflix and could not believe how simplistic the writing was. It was too dated for me to enjoy. So much for nostalgia.
But Darrin McGavin still rules. It was his performance that rose above it all and made that series worth watching originally.

(1,561 posts)A couple years ago I looked into ordering a DVD of that first movie from a local CD store. They wanted something like $70 for it. Didn't want it that bad.
