Man smashing BART train windows with golf club creates big delays

A man swinging a golf club and smashing a BART train’s windows Tuesday afternoon at the West Oakland station created a flurry of police activity and major delays on the transit system in all directions through the area.

The train bound for the Dublin-Pleasanton station was held after the destruction was reported about 1:30 p.m. on platform two. Trains on the opposite track going to San Francisco were allowed to pass through.

The train with the broken windows was held as police looked for the club-wielding man, but released shortly after 2 p.m.

Police arrested a man suspected of carrying out the vandalism. No injuries were reported, and officers found windows smashed in the station as well. The man’s name wasn’t immediately released.
