Fire a few rounds over their heads. If the return fire is random, erratic and misdirected, they're Italians.
If the return fire is just a few precisely placed shots, they're British.
If the return fire is a massive amount of machine gun fire, they're Germans.
If there is no return fire and absolute silence for 5 minutes, then your position is obliterated by an air strike, they're Americans.
If you get sprinkled on, it's a froggy on a Rain Bird
