I mean, let's face it, we all know Clinton is going to win, thank God. There's no real suspense, but 90% of GD is dedicated to talking about what a dickhead Trump is, on which we're all in agreement. Even LBN is half Trump.
What happened to porn wars and Olive Garden, when we could all just have a good time arguing like hell?

Preferably, a lesbian one.

(12,778 posts)We need a little something to liven up this joint. I love cat pics as much as the next guy, but nothing satisfies like a knockdown dragout fight over whether Spider Woman's ass on a comic cover is sexist.
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)that's what was great about it.
NaturalHigh
(12,778 posts)I didn't even know there was a Spider Woman before that epic rant thread.
BTW, I don't think it was sexist at all. If you looked through that thread, you'll recall that there was an almost identical pose of Spider Man.
See - this is much more entertaining than one more denunciation of Donald Trump. A thread that can get people going nose-to-nose discussing the political and social implications of Spider Woman's ass is much more worthy of GD, in my opinion, and a hell of a lot more fun.

And yes, I do remember the Spider Woman butt thread.

(4,412 posts)You prolly had some great arse comebacks on that thread too.

(53,339 posts)iirc, I think I let the folks who were intense about it duke it out cheek-to-cheek, so to speak.

(12,778 posts)You'd log off and come back the next day to find yourself flamed by the opposing viewpoint. Good times.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)so in my mind there's that totally impossible long shot of Trump being President because where he's sitting right this minute was utterly, completely, impossible just within the last year.
If I didn't know much history I might think it would never happen here, but, unfortunately for me, I'm somewhat cognizant of history, so I'm no longer feeling we're the greatest in the world anymore. The wool is no longer covering my eyes.

(12,778 posts)for anyone who doesn't think Clinton will win. Hell, I'm thinking about starting a betting pool over how many electoral votes she'll get and/or her percentage of the popular vote. She'll get a larger percentage than Obama got against Romney.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)But then, I supported Bernie and am going to vote for Hillary but not all that enthusiastically. All my life I've been a Progressive so this time it's harder than ever to not feel disappointed and a bit depressed. So, even though there will be much less enthusiasm coming from me my vote is still worth the vote of the most enthusiastic out there.

(6,107 posts)Tons of political stuff to bet on and it is legal in the U.S.
The two surest bets, though they won't pay much, is which party wins NY state and will Repubs get 370 electoral votes.
You can bet on most any race, what polls will say on a given date, and tons of other things.
Do note that they charge you 5% when you withdraw money, and 10% on any profit.
You can continually buy and sell in their markets.

(12,778 posts)You just made this whole thing interesting again.

(6,107 posts)I did make a good sum in 2012 betting on Obama on the Irish site Intrade, which no longer exists.
That one was difficult as you had to wire money. For Predictit a credit card is just fine.

(12,778 posts)Seriously how long ago has that been now? Must be at least a year, maybe more.

(17,217 posts)Chris Hemsworth's ass, perhaps. I understand from another venue he's the eye candy in the new version of Ghostbusters.

Ugh.
I avoid politicians like the plague when I go to the fair. I go there to have a good time, not listen to a bunch of self righteous GOP poopie heads get stupid.

(4,267 posts)People in the real world are at each others' throats, people are on here (like I've seen for so many elections on DU now), etc etc. I'm tired of it, myself.
I catch the evening commentary on MSNBC, as well as skimming the posts a bit on DU, and then that's all I really want to hear about it.

(41,212 posts)I sometimes think I'd like to go to sleep and wake up in November with Clinton as your president (and from a selfish point of view, that might calm down or at least not further inflame our own current political nightmare).
If the unthinkable were to happen, I might prefer to sleep for 100 years, and then wake up to a new day, assuming the world even still exists by then!
NaturalHigh
(12,778 posts)Clinton by a landslide, and then maybe we can all get a little well-deserved peace from this damned election.
