The AC froze up again.

(3,998 posts)I just run the fan, without the a/c part running. It eventually un-freezes. Have you tried doing that?

(72,300 posts)It worked last summer with less filter changes.
On Saturday a friend took the cover off then sprayed and rinsed the fins. That was all it needed last year.
After the unit thaws 4 or 5 hours it'll work again but I'm concerned that will eventually cause more damage.

(279 posts)installed a new so-called "state of the art" air conditioner unit in my apartment. Last night it broke through no fault of my own. This bastard tells me it's MY fault because I didn't follow the directions on how to use it which is BULLSHIT. THEN he tells me he can't get a replacement unit until January 2017. What am I supposed to do until then? I'm in DC where it's going to be the 100s for the next 5 days. I'm upset and scared. What am I going to do?

That doggy is too cute!
Yeah, we just clicked our unit on too. You can come for a swim at my house.

(10,098 posts)Got new wood flooring put in and it just got the final finish on, so my AC is cranked way lower than I would have it set at. I'm going to turn the thermostat up a bit tonight maybe. I was out of town when the flooring guys had it set to 70 for a week, I was afraid I was going to come home to a broken unit.
Well, I hope you can stay cool somehow.
Peace

(10,098 posts)I actually tried to stay there one night, but my eyes were watering, even being downstairs with the vents closed. If it ever cools off here I'll get some fresh air in. However, it does smell a bit when you come in. But gosh, the floors do look wonderful.
Peace

(72,300 posts)The return duct-work needs replacing today. More coils need cleaning.
Oh there is a small non-repairable freon leak.
Looks like Andy will need to come out every spring to check out the unit. We haven't gotten replacement freon since we moved here.

(53,339 posts)It's been hot here, too--not unusual for the SoCal high desert. Like crotch pot cooking hot, if you get the Robin Williams reference.
At least you're good to go for a while.

(72,300 posts)The duct on one side had collapsed. It was twisted, filled with dirt and "nasty debris". Might have been small critters.
I'll sleep better tonight. Oh, we can afford beer and travel money.

(1,858 posts)If you mainly use one room, you might consider a portable air conditioner. You can set your house to one temp, and keep the room you use colder and save on power. It will also come in handy if your main unit fails or if you are in an area that could have power outages and need to use a generator.
