'Suicide Squad' Tracking for Enormous $125M U.S. Debut

If early tracking is any indication, the Warner Bros. and DC superhero movie could open to an enormous $125 million in its North American debut when unfurling over the Aug. 5-7 weekend. Some box-office analysts believe it could even climb higher, but stress it’s still early in the game.

Either way, Suicide Squad should have no trouble coming in ahead of Marvel and Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened to $94.3 million domestically in early August 2014.

The bigger question is whether it can match Fox’s Deadpool, the R-rated superhero movie that rocketed to a $132.4 million domestic opening this past February despite an R-rating.

Suicide Squad revolves around an irreverent band of supervillains, and is rated PG-13.

1. I want SS to make "Deadpool" money.

I love villains! I really, really want this movie to help push the trend that will get more bad-guy or anti-hero movies to the screen. DP has already shown us the way. Biting humor + hard "R" action = $$$$. I'm already hearing about a solo Harley movie getting some good heat.
