I never did. No offense to anyone, but I thought it was the most unusual car design EVER. The gullwing design of the DeLorean was right up there also.

None of these old cars handle as well as modern vehicles; they have some bad quirks you'll only discover by driving them hard, or worse, when you want them to go one way in an emergency and they go the other. I'm always hyper-aware that they're not as safe in accidents.
That's the one I loved! I thought the wraparound rear window and the huge front window was so revolutionary.
I never had one, but I wanted one.

(15,749 posts)It was about the cheapest car out there at that time.
3 speed on the floor, and built like a tank. Drove it from San Diego to Florida through a few Arizona dust storms, and it kept plowing through the haze at 50MPH while lesser vehicles pulled off to the side of the road.
Never did understand why people considered it fugly -- The Honda Civic that came out about 10 years later took a lot of the Gremlin's styling cues.
