Buying a single ticket "for fun" doesn't strike me as so horrible, unless of course that $1 (or is it $2, now?) is needed elsewhere.

But, yes, certainly, the odds are so astronomical as to be laughable.

So I will buy a ticket when I go to the market. When I volunteered at a soup kitchen while in college, I mentioned to a guy I was dating that all of the people who came to eat seemed so polite and considerate. He told me it was because they were poor and if any of them ever had any money they would be huge assholes. I quit dating him soon after that, but it has stuck with me.

So, I am going to buy a ticket and dream of revenge for all of the inconsequential and trivial things anyone has ever done to me, so forgive me now while I try to remember and think up schemes to ruin them after winning millions of dollars.

Dad owned a car dealership and he was a business major and he treated service people poorly. I don't think you could be the sort of asshole he was, even if you had a lot of money. So you did buy a ticket? Good, take a chance and prove you won't really be a vindictive shithead

that people who would never think to buy a lottery ticket when the take is a measly 5 or 6m will decide that 540m is worth the buck.

Really?

It is my personal opinion that a state such as mine NY would be really kicking some economic ass if the pots were 20-50k and hundreds or thousands of people won them each week. think on the $$$ pouring into the state's economy. People paying big bills, buying cars, hiring contractors, paying off mortgages. Who needs 540m???????? Seriously.

At work, they were all in a poll to buy tickets----and I will be damned if I am the only one who has to show up Monday morning!

I know----I just wiped my ass with the money. But then again, there WILL be a winner sooner or later, and you just never know who it will be. It won't be us, but my luck would have it be my coworkers if I didn't participate. Screw that.

...since we are all now policing each other we all now develop malice toward each other. I think today I managed to piss off the pro-lottery lobby, the anti-US Senate human rights resolution information lobby, and of course my continuing feud with the gun nuts. I was even attacked today for welcoming another DUer (something I generally do after a few posts to show its not a troll).

I just really did believe it's an "epic first post" - play the lotto. yeah, I guess it's a no snark zone now. I'm going to hide now.

I moved down to FL a couple months ago and they don't have Mega Millions. I called a friend in NJ and asked her to put down $20 for me if the line isn't too long. So we'll see. She had already put in $1 for me in the office pool where I used to work.
