Captain Marvel - Oscar Winner Brie Larson in negotiations to play the lead role

After winning the best actress Oscar for “Room,” Brie Larson has her sights on another marvelous role.

Sources tell Variety Larson is in early talks to play Captain Marvel, one of Marvel’s most popular female superheroes, in an upcoming standalone film. It’s unknown where negotiations stand, but sources have told Variety that Larson is their first choice, and that she’s leaning toward playing the part.

Marvel had no comment on the story.

and seems like she looks the part (she's above average for height at 5'7&quot , but I don't see her as attractive as ScarJo as the Black Widow. I've heard the name, but can't recall what I've seen her in before (I did not see The Room, nor Scott Pilgrim vs the World)

She had some guest spots in the sit-com 'Community.' That's all I know her from. I'm seeing a more than a few Marvel tie-ins to that show... both of the Russo brothers directed gobs of its episodes, and three of the main cast members had cameo spots in a couple of the Avenger/Capt. America movies.

For a lark, check out the episode "A Fistful of Paintballs." You'll see two stunts that were directly imported into Winter Solder. As a matter of fact, here's a 13-second spot spoofing the movies...

Very good, but as far from a super hero flick as you can get. She also played Amy Schumer's sister in Trainwreck.

Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr aren't exactly ugly, either. Most comic book heroes and heroines are portrayed as good looking in the comics. There are a few exceptions. Spider-Man was one of the first exceptions - he was kind of a nerdy and unattractive outcast when he was first portrayed.

This is the only one that holds any level of familiarity, and that's still rather low:

I take it that's not even close to whatever your version is referencing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Marvel_%28Marvel_Comics%29#Publication_history

Following a trial in which DC Comics sued Fawcett Comics for breach of copyright, claiming Fawcett's Captain Marvel was too similar to Superman, the latter stopped publishing Captain Marvel. In the late sixties Marvel gained the trademark "Captain Marvel" with their first series, forcing DC to call their Captain Marvel comic book Shazam! when they gained the rights to publish the vintage hero starting in the early 1970s.

To retain their trademark, Marvel has had to publish a Captain Marvel title every year or two since, leading to a number of ongoing series, limited series, and one-shots featuring a range of characters using the Captain Marvel alias

The original (Marvel) version of Captain Marvel, in 1967:
