(2,273 posts)1. It's an acquired taste kind of like Natto or Vegemite.
Funny seeing their reaction, I don't even remember seeing black licorice in Japan which is funky the first time you try then salting it.

especially with a runny egg over rice. As for Vegemite, its really too salty but that stuff will last forever in its jar!

I can't eat the stuff, tastes like slimy blue cheese but my kids ate it since they were babies.

this type of soy sauce that comes with it, which blends really well with the Japanese rice (Never use any other kind of rice, its not as good) and runny egg.

My ex wife loved that she could get it fresh, still did not win me over.
