The Exeter Cathedral in the U.K. has a 15th century astronomical clock that indicates the time, the position of the sun in the sky, and the phases of the moon. The door below the clock has a round hole at its base. In the 17th century, this hole was carved for the cat. The bishops cat attacked the rats that were attracted to the animal fat used to lubricate the clocks mechanism.

... but what's with the high voltage sign?
Is there some historic knob-and-tube wiring in there too?

You never know what they're going to get up to.

It was during choir practice, too, which was serendipitous. Nice little burg, Exeter. Went across to the Ship for lunch. They had a list of citizens who were not to be served on the wall, and the very pretty counter girl asked me to mind the till while she visited the loo. One of the high points of my trip to Blighty 25 years ago.
