Cold or wet weather can't give you a cold, but it can certainly turn a cold into pneumonia.

Myth - Pneumonia only happens in cold places and cold seasons.

While we’ve all heard the warning to wear a coat when it’s cold outside or we’ll risk catching pneumonia, air temperature actually has little impact on the ability of pneumonia-causing bacteria to spread from one person to the next. In fact, the majority of pneumonia infections occur in countries with tropical climates.

The root of the cold air myth most likely stems from the fact that we tend to spend more time gathered indoors during the cold winter months. When we’re together in closer quarters, pneumonia-causing bacteria can easily spread from person to person. Pneumonia can thrive in tropical countries not because of the weather but because nutrition is often poor, people tend to live in crowded environments and there is indoor air pollution from cooking fires.

And lowers their immune response. You get sick from germs, but the stress of the wet/cold predisposes you to illness. Personally, I get achy in cold, wet weather.

I know that one doesn't catch a virus from the cold weather, but I ache when it is cold and damp. Add a sniffle or cough from the chill and it can feel as rotten as a head cold.

It sure beats the 90 + degree heat we get here every single day, from May through September

BTW, Dr. Dean Edel used to talk about this on his radio show.

He also said that the place where the most germs live is the kitchen sink, & the kitchen sponge.

I have had the most amazing bass fishing. They attacked and slashed my lures with crazy abandon. Pike too.

Sometimes there is something to folk wisdom, so it's best not to chance it. I honor my ancestors when I tell my children they have to put on their coats.
