Is it even possible to sweat up there?
But c'mon. The 'Mats. Husker Du. Soul Asylum. And wasn't there some kid from Thief River Falls who used to play the coffeehouses in Dinkytown? And there will always be a purple raincloud hanging over First Avenue! Hell, Roseanne lived up there for a while before she took off for Hawai'i!
And I say this as someone who had a longstanding grudge against the place. You see, my feminist mentor took up with a guy from there she'd met at a huge clinic defense in Buffalo back in the early '90s. I didn't go because I was worried about taking that much time off work. Next thing you know, she's inviting me to go to Mpls. with her so I can watch her have a relationship with this person! "How can U just leave me standing alone in a world so cold?"
So for years I assiduously rooted against all your teams, successfully, for the most part, especially when the Saints knocked the Vikes out of the Super Bowl; you see, we met defending clinics in NOLA! In fact, most of you up there have probably heard of her; she has been involved with the police brutality issue for many years, long before the recent case that thrust it into the spotlight.
But truth be told, I've always been kind of envious.

(115,735 posts)The whole city has gone nuts with Prince tributes and concerts - there was a huge dance party at First Avenue, and the I-35W freeway bridge through downtown (the one that collapsed a few years ago and got rebuilt) has been lit up purple. Prince was sort of a fixture here, and even if you weren't into the popular music scene (I'm not), you'd aways hear about him. He'd go downtown and hang out at the clubs and people kind of got used to having him around. The whole place has gone purple. He was a very big deal here.
Yes, we're cool. We've always been cool, which is probably why Prince stayed here rather than going to New York or LA.
