I like spicy Italian sausage, tomatoes and mushrooms.

(9,002 posts)A few months ago my work was ordering pizza for the office. They went around and asked what everyone wanted. I said Hawaiin and maybe a few others did. Everyone else said it didn't matter.
So the office bought 8 Hawaiin pizzas (and two cheese pizzas) since that was the only order given other than whatever. People were pissed. Most of my coworkers complained that they didn't like pineapple on their pizza.
KamaAina
(78,249 posts)it is far more popular on the Left Coast than it is in the islands themselves.
The old Dole plantation in central O'ahu has over 100 varieties of pineapple, many of which are tart rather than sweet. I have long believed that a tart variety might actually make a decent pizza topping.
Oh yes, you can finish off your Oakland snack with a scoop of rocky road ice cream, also invented there.

(78,249 posts)Pizza cheese is supposed to be mozzarella, dammit! (Or in southern Conn.'s Neapolitan dialect, "scamozza", the term 'mozzarella' being reserved for di bufalo.) Even our regional chain Round Table features a three-cheese blend! And for whatever reason, "San Francisco-style" pizza usually has feta!

(24,768 posts)Dessert fruits, such as pineapple, peaches, and pears don't belong on pizza AFAIC.
Tomatoes may be fruits, but they're fregetables--fruits eaten as vegetables. Plus, a pizza isn't a pizza without tomato sauce.

I am a fan of almost anything you can put on a pizza - provided it's accompanied by pizza sauce and (at least) mozzarella cheese. If I wanted BBQ or alfredo sauce I'd just go eat BBQ or alfredo something.
But my go-to pizza is just plain pepperoni as it satisfies the whole family instead of having to listen to whining.
Oddly, about the only think I do not care for is sausage unless it's part of an ensemble.
But I like everything from just cheese to all the meats to all the meats and all the veggies up to and including pineapple but NOT broccoli. What a horrible thing to do to a pizza.
And I won't eat Papa John's for money or to save my life. Fuck that guy.

(25,586 posts)mushrooms, basil leaves, crushed garlic, and a sprinkling of sea salt and oregano. A drizzling of olive oil when it comes out of the oven.
And vegan cheese. Sorry, pizza purists.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)It would be great to find a pizza place that used it.
I like your toppings, but tend to avoid them because they make the crust soggy. That goes for any topping with a high amount of water in it, and then it cooks out and into the crust.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)And they cook with the big woodfired pizza ovens that finish the whole thing in about 90 seconds, so luckily no sogginess. At home I tend to keep pizza simpler for exactly that reason.
And damn that Daiya cheese rocks.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)But when I am, I like to buy the "slices" and make grilled cheese sandwiches, usually with homemade bread. Great stuff!
Houston does have some great veggie restaurants, but I don't know if any of the pizza joints use daiya or other vegan cheeses. Might be worth asking around...

(8,646 posts)I don't know how to explain the wrong kind of pepperoni. Some are good, some are bad, LOL. Oh, and this one place nearby has 'italian sausage' but it tastes nothing like the sausage I cook with and I find it disgusting.
Our family has pizza nights regularly and we all have varied tastes so I'm usually the odd one out, so I've learned to just eat whatever. I have 4 kids and 2 of them like Hawaiian, 1 likes pepperoni or donair pizza and one likes olives & mushrooms. My mom likes vegetarian with extra olives. My dad likes the spicy perogy from a Boston Pizza (I think that's, ironically, a Canadian chain?), my brother likes anything with banana peppers and my SIL is like me - she'll eat whatever.
My ex used to like anything with lots of meat, when we'd make homemade pizzas, they always had summer sausage, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms and peppers. My former best friend (still friendly, just grew apart) used to like onions and ground beef...This one place our work orders from when they have pizza days (a couple times a year) has a spaghetti pizza...it's quite good, amazingly. I've learned to deal with whatever (except the olives, I just can't do it.)
Today I had a mexican inspired pizza at a restaurant and it was yummy. It had cilantro, corn, avocado and chicken. Came with hot sauce. MMMM!

JimDandy
(7,318 posts)Try it... Cooking the pickles leaves just enough of the sourness to make the pizza interesting. It's almost like artichoke hearts, but less expensive. So you get a pizza with four of the tastes: umami, sour, sweet and salty. I suppose, if you"re a drinker, a bitter beer would give you the last taste.

Sauerkraut and Canadian bacon (weird, but it works)
Spicy Italian sausage, roasted bell pepper, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms.
Putting tomato slices on most pies AFTER they're cooked is nice.
Slices of raw garlic are too, if you're in to that sort of thing.
