In the second-season premiere, the families flee a burning Los Angeles on Strand's yacht, as Strand remains mysterious. Meanwhile, the group encounters danger at sea.
Maybe I'm zombied out, but I'm not all that excited about tonight. Maybe others feel differently?

(1,681 posts)Junkies in general are tenacious survivors. Nick is uniquely qualified to thrive in a apocalyptic environment. Crime, filth & chaos doesn't phase them like normal people. Think about it, a junkie will do just about anything to get what they want/need. Stand sees this quality in him.
Also, look at how they're subtly setting him up a a leader. He piloted the zodiac from the shore to the ship several times & took out the Z with the boat engine without freaking out. He offered his experienced advice on how to treat a gunshot wound. And he dived into the water to go after whatshisface.
Nick is already a hardcore survivor.

My guess is one of the kids - Nick, Alicia or Chris

(1,681 posts)Alicia - will have a real tough time letting go of the old world. She had "status" in the old world, but that's gone now. She's kinda iffy. However, FTWD needs pretty faces so he's safe...for now.
Chris - He's kinda douchey now, but I think he's gonna bounce back nicely with role models like his dad, Salazar & Nick. I like how interested he was in the rifle that Salazar showed him in the first season & the fishing thing was noticeable.

Then Alicia did the most stupid thing she could do. Why didn't they take the blasted thing away from her once they realized she had just given away their location?

(46,723 posts)That is a wreck. Do you suppose that is the result of piracy?
That smoke on the water was signs of a fight. And now Nick comes up on the bottom of a boat riddled with bullets. Yep. Piracy is on the way.

(12,047 posts)yeah - The show would be better if it was just the black guy and the boat and the people he encounters in the zombie apocalypse.
Anyways, some dead mommy corpse drama (wtf are they doing dragging her around?) - boy hungry daughter dialing up some new action, a shot up wrecked boat mysteriously appears out of nowhere, waiting for drama (why isn't their shiny new big boat moving!!!?) while stupid son #1 tries to maybe drown himself, which turns into another rescue scene ... then, pirates

You know, I've gotten so used to ignoring ridiculous sequences from TWD I barely notice them in Fear, like the big overturned boat suddenly appearing 50 yards away from them because a mysterious fog appeared to conceal it and the introduction of aquatic "swimmer" walkers. In a crystal clear ocean. Who knew walkers were olympic swimmers?
Kirkman wrote this, you know.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)and then tried to reach out & grab Nick when he touched it or got next to it. Then, it started flailing, which propelled it forward in the water.
Agree that most of the cast is pretty annoying/irritating - I liked Salazar until he revealed he was a death squad torturer.
And, it does seem silly that Chris just upped and jumped off the boat when they're in water that's 145 feet deep. (And, isn't ocean water that far from shore pretty cold - even in southern California - especially in comparison to the air? They're not in the Caribbean Sea.)
I'm predicting at least one kid doesn't survive the year - Chris, Alicia or Nick. My early favorite is Chris - Nick has the survival skills, like Strand said, and Alicia is book smart, so could become a young & pretty version of Eugene if she can learn to adapt.
They definitely have a lot of issues with pacing.

(1,681 posts)He's definitely has that hardcore survivor mentality. Very familiar with firearms, bladed weapons & does not hesitate at all to use them.
Would not be surprised to see him revealed as a US trained former Contra rebel/Anti-Sandinista Special Forces trainer. His age is about right for being a veteran officer of that conflict. A twisted fuck like that is tailor-made for getting jiggy the Zpocalypse.
His age is working against him though.

(4,338 posts)....in the vein of something zombie to watch until TWD comes back next year.
One thing I try to remind myself is that this is starting over with different people in a different place. When someone says or does something stupid at first I get mad because even I know better than that, but I must remind myself that they are all still learning,
The last few episodes of TWD actually pissed me off a lot because they were breaking the very rules that kept them safe. Breaking up into smaller groups and going beyond the walls in those groups.
So yeah, FTWD has it's problems I agree, but I am trying to watch it from that stand point so maybe it makes it better for me?(intended punctuation)
Just my 2 cents.

(90,769 posts)Alicia is going to bring trouble to them all with her new radio friend. (Jack) " It's OK, Alicia. I got you. I'll see you soon"
Strand (Victor) is playing it close to the vest. More secrets there. It is his boat. It really is - but he needs to remember that he's only one man and Daniel isn't exactly a weakling.
Daniel is always watching everyone. Smart man.
Finally - Eliza goes to the sea. Dead bodies are a health concern regardless of their status as a would-be zombie.
Travis seems to be getting with the program.
Madison is still right, though.
Nick is Nick. Good thing. No, Nick - let the fucker die if he wants to die.
Chris is Chris. Not a good thing. You can't "fix" infection and you can't cure stupid. Next time no one should jump in to help you.
Ofelia needs to clean that fucking wound better.
Setting the stage for future shows. Mostly a get reacquainted episode.
So far, so-so.
Missed you all!!
Get out of the water you dimwits! The "walking" dead can't drown. Damn, Nick! Idiot! Moron! Get out of the fucking water! So, off Nick goes to save someone. I'm going to be terribly pissed at Nick if he gets himself killed now. Now goes Travis. Damn, people.
I'm hope your curious was satisfied there, Nick.
Alicia needs to tell the others what Jack said. (see above)
Is that "Jack" coming? As in "Hijack"?
Pirates? Fucking Alicia.
The end.
Oh, well.
