Considered by many to be one of the greatest actors of all time, Robert De Niro has starred in such films as The Godfather Part ll, Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Deer Hunter, Heat, Bang the Drum Slowly, Midnight Run, Brazil, Ronin, Casino (1995), Angel Heart, Awakenings, Mad Dog and Glory, and many other great films.
De Niro gained 60 lbs and learned how to box for "Raging Bull", ground his teeth for "Cape Fear", lived in Sicily for "The Godfather Part ll", worked as a cab driver for a few weeks for "Taxi Driver", and learned how to play the saxophone for "New York, New York"
My favorites are "Meet the Parents" "Meet the Fockers" ."Analyze This", & "Analyze That"
(De Niro can do both dramatic roles and comedic roles as well as any actor ever, imo)
(Feel free to list as many favorites as you want)

(13,431 posts)Perhaps the best heist movie ever. Al Pacino co-starring only makes it better.

(10,109 posts)Loved it, the whole cast was good. I usually can't stand Jerry Lewis, but perfect casting.

(27,677 posts)With Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, James Woods and Don Rickles. Directed by Martin Scorsese based on a true story (like Goodfellas) De Niro plays a character based on Frank (Lefty) Rosenthal who ran serveral casinos for the mob in Vegas in the seventies.
Directed by Scorsese (of course) De Niro is great in this film because he plays an unsympathetic protagonist sympathetically. Sharon Stone has never been better (I know, faint praise but she really is good here) and Pesci is perhaps even more dangerous than he was in Goodfellas. And the soundtrack is fantastic as we roll through the seventies.
Worth watching. Don't believe me? Watch Bert and Ernie act out a scene (warning: language):

(19,847 posts)De Niro plays against type as a mousy police photographer and again seems to physically transform himself but it's hard to put your finger on how he does it.

(70,744 posts)he was in it. A flick ain't about a player in it. The Fockers, really?!1 - I can't even fathom how he & Babs (or legacy child STILLER) would do something for the money that they don't even need.
