Another man was killed where I work today.

I work at a scrap yard. I drive a truck for them. Two weeks ago a man running a baler in the yard was crushed to death by the machine. This morning, a fellow driver was killed in a traffic accident.

I had been running a dedicated route (meaning I did the same thing every day) for 4.5 years for this company. They took me off of it a few weeks ago and put a senior driver on it. I wasn't doing a bad job. They just wanted to shake things up for some reason. That driver had been there for 30 years and had wanted that route for a long time. He actually trained me on it, but they wouldn't let him do more than fill in on it when the regular driver was off. That's the man that was killed this morning...doing my route.

It had snowed a little here. The driver took off from the yard at 6:00AM. The roads didn't appear to be slick. This route is all rural roads- two lane highway through farmland. There are very few bridges or overpasses. One of the exceptions is a bridge that goes over a another highway up in a small town. Our driver was going across it the same time as an oncoming semi. The semi hit a frozen patch and jack-knifed hitting our driver head on.

I feel kind of sick right now.

Have you heard anything from the place where you interviewed Friday?

They want me to come in for some tests. I'm pretty sure I've got the job and I'm going to take it if they offer it to me. I'll be off the road then.

Hope whatever tests they have in mind go ok.

That is such an awful thing that happened today. Wrong place, wrong time, and so easily could have
been you. Really makes you appreciate all the little things, doesn't it? We never know when our
number is coming up.

It must seem surreal, but you're dong the right thing, talking about it. I did see your post about the new job and I hope so much that you get it - and soon. This is the perfect time for a change. Hang in there and remember to breathe and please let us know how it's going...

I can understand why you must be feeling shaken up. This is just too much on top of the recent death. I hope you get out of there!

30 years, and be taken out by a random patch of ice.. I avoid two lane back roads as much as possible because there is no room for error, but it still has to be done.

I'm currently SE of you in Bidwell OH, about to Pre-Trip, and roll across WV to my drop near Chesapeake VA tomorrow am. I have one little 40 mile stretch of two way on the 35 to get me on the I-64 proper. Not a big deal, but stuff like what happened to your co-worker sticks to the back my mind as I drive late at night.

Extra good luck on your new job prospect.

Maybe the boss will get it into his head that maybe a couple days off and some counseling might be in order.

This is not a good place to be in. Psychologically or physically.

I really hope you get the other job and get out of there.

Best wishes.
