I've been listening to good indie pop and rock albums. They are:
Lucius - Good Grief
Laney Jones - self-titled
Emily Kinney - This Is War
Lily & Madeleine - Keep It Together
Pete Yorn - ArrangingTime
Lissie - My Wild West
I'm not one who only likes indie pop for pop music - I felt Carly Rae Jepsen's Emotion and Taylor Swift's 1989 were two of the best albums of last year. But if you look into indie pop, there is a lot of great stuff that isn't as noticed. Also you get your fair share of not so good in mainstream pop. I wanted to like Rachel Platten's Wildfire since she is cute and seems sweet - I have a new crush on her. But Rachel's music is so honed by the producers that it gets very generic. So what are you listening to?

Oh and random classical and jazz on WRTI.
When I'm cranky, though, it has to be the Offspring.
For Franti, someone recently gave me the album Yell Fire and I really like it.
Tracy Chapman I have tons on my mp3 player from various albums.

(5,364 posts)And so my interest in early hard-core punk is rekindled.
There was some truly talentless bad stuff, no doubt, but 'X' and 'Fear' is some good, tight stuff that's busrsting with energy.

(21,893 posts)has a new "album" - great voice. This one is produced by the singer from My Morning Jacket and has a Pink Floyd sound to it. Sounds great. Must listen to the rest of it.

(36,269 posts)You can't imagine how exciting it was to find a new album by one of my favorite musicians, long after such a thing seemed even remotely possible. It's totally different, just like almost everything he did. Instead of taking his whole huge orchestra all the way to India, he replaced all the brass, woodwind, and strings (except bass) with a single vocalist, singing only open tones (no words), plus solo trumpet and rhythm section.
Don had developed a passion for Indian music early on, and studied with Harihar Rao. It's hard to imagine how much it must have meant to him to be able to visit India the last year of his life. Monster drummer David Crigger has written about the experience on his web page.
It helps to be able to count to seven, and sometimes higher.
Here's some YouTube of my two favorite tracks:

(10,164 posts)It's easy to be fooled at first glance by their gimmick (maid uniforms on cute young Japanese women...related to that "maid cafe" phenomenon) and dismiss them as likely to be the empty-headed, simplistic variety of pop...and not near-metal, aggressive (but uber-catchy) alterna-rock/pop with plenty of real musicianship. To wit:
Plus, how can you not love a band that releases a song called "alone" on Valentine's Day?
