The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAfter just starting to watch Season 2 of Better Call Saul, I've had to catch up on Season 1.
To get a better sense of context.
So I'm basically watching a prequel to a prequel.

(43,190 posts)Breaking Bad ranks up with The Sopranos and The Wire as possibly the greatest television dramas in history.
While Better Call Saul seems somewhat lighter than Breaking Bad, it's still very much its original show's spinoff.
Good television drama never has me looking at my watch, and so far I've gotten that sense from BCS.

(60,010 posts)There are so many Easter Eggs in Saul that go back to BB.

(43,190 posts)Incredible show.
The reason I didn't watch Season 1 of Better Call Saul when it first aired was because I was still in the middle of Breaking Bad and I wanted a better context.

(60,010 posts)Damn, he is so good!!! at showing the layers of feelings that Jimmy has.
I make sure to watch each episode twice...once for the storyline, then again for the filming, the use of color, light, shadow and how each shot is framed to add to the characters.
Plus to spot the easter eggs that refer back to Breaking Bad.
Not a lot of tv shows are worth that 2nd watch.
Also I like The Good Wife for good writing..not as great as BB/Saul, but good.

(10,107 posts)I noticed it especially in the first episode of season 2. Just amazing stuff. When he was in the garbage area and the camera zoomed in ever so slowly...just was cool. There are many other instances but the technical filming of the show is so superior. I may have to start watching them twice too. Glad I'm not the only one that enjoys that aspect of the show.
Peace
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,810 posts)Obviously the character, Jimmy, is making it up as he goes along, and the funniest thing about the scene is that you can kind of see the mental wheels turning as he figures out how to make the "alibi" so absurd and disgusting that the cops have to conclude he couldn't possibly be making it up.
I'm going to watch that again. It was just brilliant.

(4,178 posts)and watch the end of season one again
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,810 posts)Total ROFL scene where Jimmy is explaining his dodgy client's "porn."

(56,828 posts)but, did not love it. It had some great moments and some really funny ones, but I thought it was too uneven over the course of the season.
Breaking Bad immediately got me hooked.
I have the first two episodes on my DVR, but have not watched them yet.

his acting ability and, also, the writing.
I hope for an Annette O'Toole cameo some day.
