to wit: &quot Dr. Strange: ) Is this not the most beautiful piece of music, ever?"

I'll say (my answer) that (for me) it's subsumed by Mvts 1 & 3 in (above all) their striking melodies, and sweetness of the former and vigor of the latter. After hearing the grand gentleman KEMPFF with Mvt2 I was very curious about how he would handle the monster vigor of Mvt3 that followed in your link and was surprised how he managed to retain his physical composure while handling all the notes, letting his fingers do it all. Our young artists -- like the kid in the Android commercial, LANG LANG, and my fave KISSIN -- throw their whole bodies into it. Well, KISSIN to a lesser extent since he portrays a very perfect machine.

Check out the venerable Mr KEMPFF comparison with Mvt3 in the commercial:

I'm fine with Mvt2 in the totality of the composition but would not seek it out on its own. My music appreciation sessions are few and far between and must be rationed by maximum smacking-in-the-face content. I am a generalist, dilettante, a non-connoisseur (no need to be substitute "superficial, shallow, ignoramus" here). Actually, when letting a quieter mood take over, will sooner go to this:

Now, now, before we slip over into those uncourteous adjectives, I notice your avatar:

Yeah, that was the reason for my original thread. I was sorta poking fun at the 2nd movement--it really is the Jan Brady of the Moonlight Sonata. Although I did appreciate Brickbat's point about it.

Ah, The Crystal Ship. An awesome work from the Doors!
