Men are calling me! Women are calling me! Everyone's calling me!

To judge from the messages left on my answering machine, quite a few people want to haul me into court

Some want me to make payment arrangements. It also seems I likely to be arrested on federal charges

I got about five such messages yesterday

None of the callers seem to know who actually lives at this address: they have been trying desperately to contact people with at least two different names -- and maybe more, since they aren't always intelligible

None of the names correspond to anyone living here

It's not yet 9A but I've already gotten another call this morning

Today's caller was especially vague: "This message is an effort to reach you." No name was mentioned. "I am trying to help you. If you do not respond, you will need to appear before federal magistrate or grand jury for non-cooperation"

It's great to be so popular!

And this nonsense went on for a ridiculous 20+years. We moved into our house in 1987. It was until just around 5 years ago that we stopped getting collection calls for some Jeremy guy that neither of us had ever heard of.

On top of that, since the people who lived there before us moved just a mile away and we knew them, and the people before them were the husband's parents, nobody by that name had lived at that address since at least the late 50's.

But, they had our phone number, our address, just didn't have any idea who actually lived there and were looking for someone who never did.
