The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAbout missing your friends when they don't post...
WillParkinson's thread got me to thinking. I suspect I'm not alone in saying that there are many folks here whose posts I really enjoy reading. Some are friends, some are just casual acquaintances.
When they don't post, sometimes I miss them right away. It depends on the degree of friendship. Obviously, people I'm close to I will miss sooner.
And sometimes I don't realize I've missed someone until they come back. Then I think, omigod, XX was gone and I didn't realize it till now! I'll bet this happens to all of us.
Just my thoughts on this rainy Sunday...

(28,394 posts)It is hard to keep track of everyone's comings and goings. We all try, but there are other priorities sometimes. No one should feel like they are unappreciated, but realistically, this is a huge community!
Stay in touch, everyone! LOL and s

(55,019 posts)it took me literally YEARS to learn a few people's identities (and I am terrible at faces in real life too) and when people disappear for a while I lose the mental information storage file. It is hard for me to remember so many identities - and then...when they change avatars...it's who the eff is that?
I think now after what, 6 years? I know maybe 15 or twenty "IDs" on sight.

(10,558 posts)Yeah, I know he ate the ol granite pizza but he sure knew how to cheer up this ol' lounge. Other MIA lounge-lizards are Kitchenwitch, Joan Alpern, Southland Shari and lately Miss Honeychurch. Things change I suppose, but you are still here CP........hmmm .....this begs the question: Where exactly were you on the day these venerable loungers disappeared??? Maybe I might just have to report this little oddity to Fox Mulder.....um...oh hell, he seems to have disappeared around here too! Oh-noes

(42,998 posts)They were both TS'd awhile back but I talk to themon FB quite a bit. Lots of people who don't post here much or at all post on FB. Easier to control who you interact with. I haven't talked to you for awhile, but I remember enjoying your stuff very much..
KW and Fox Mulder both tombstoned huh, tragic . Going out in a blaze of glory perhaps....well that's how I shall imagine it. I liked both of them. I am still dragging heels when it comes to Facebook, never been there, (had a My Space account for a bit, not sure if that is even still active).
I recall FM's first ever post, it was here in the lounge, very very late at night while most DUers are sleeping. He asked if anyone was out there and I decided that with a name like Fox Mulder he had to be freeper. Kept my eye on him for months waiting for a slip-up that never came, he turned out to be pretty cool in my book.
Kitchenwitch was always there for us with kind words when needed but she could get pretty fierce if needsbe too. Rarely did one find her outside of the lounge but on occasion she would do battle over in GD, held her own with the best of 'em too.
TZ, if you would be so kind, let them both know that I said hello and that I hope life is treating them well. They are both missed by me and will be remembered with fondness.
And lastly, you claim to have enjoyed MY posts??? Weird! Thank you for the kind words but I suspect you have me mixed up with someone else, happens all the time.

(42,998 posts)You are chicken little but with a great sense of humor about it. Plus you only half believe I'm an evil Pharma Shill.. They both know you said hello and are grateful to be remembered.

(10,558 posts)Ok so you were showing off your gozinta skills and found out the hard way that Kitchy had a bad case of Podophobia. Evenso, that's no excuse to be mean about it! A simple eeeewwww should have been good enough.

Thanks for the late-night love you always seem to have an abundance of!

(30,756 posts)that someone came back after an absence, and either announced their return, or I noticed their return. I welcomed them back enthusiastically. It was amazing how grateful those people were.
It pays to be nice to each other.

(19,736 posts)...so I normally shop GD more these days stirring the pot.
And serving on juries. I've been on one just about every time I've been on this week at least once! Busy place.
I know of some people who are long since gone whose posts I'd give anything to see again.

(66,446 posts)I'll say 'hi' to ya!
My father was from OK City, which is also the current home of the former Seattle Sonics, so there's that to talk about, at least.
I kinda know what you mean; so many of my old DU friends have been TS'd or just stopped coming around. I feel like I hardly know anybody anymore...
That's why CalPeg is so great. She's a true friend...

(9,130 posts)The TSing of KitchenWitch, no matter what she did or said was a travesty.
I'll never forgive the mods/Admins for that. She was a loved and valued
member of DU. I may join her in the pizza graveyard with this post, but
I don't care.

(18,183 posts)I use to get an occasional e mail from her , but I haven't heard from her , or seen her here in ages!
she was a very active DUer early on.
What happened to Plaid Adder? She posted some really good stuff .
