The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsDo you think anyone would miss you if you just stopped posting one day?
I've often wondered if anyone would even realize I wasn't still here. Have you ever thought about it?

(10,418 posts)The few probably being people who I've befriended in person. I wasn't all that prolific a poster to begin with and I'm not posting as much as I used to now days. Nobody seems to have noticed.
But that's okay. I seem to post in cycles. I might post 200 times a month for a while and then fall off to a post a day on average for a while. I wouldn't expect too many people to remember me. I've always done a lot more reading than posting on DU. I'm just a quiet guy I guess...until you get a dew drinks in me. That's probably when most people notice me on here- PUI.

(13,920 posts)no. But I have noticed you on less of late. A post from you is worth a read anytime it pops up, in my book.

(13,421 posts)I doubt too many would outside of a select few. Had you asked me this question a few years ago I might have answered differently, but DU has changed radically in the last four years and that strong sense of community that once existed really has gone by the wayside. I'm not planning any dramatic exit, but I have to admit that other than the LBN section and a couple select forums I really just don't feel terribly warm and fuzzy about it any more.
Like all things, DU's time is passing.

(18,219 posts)I guess I don't post OPs enough to get my name out there much. But then again, there are so many people here that I don't think I would miss many if they stopped either. This is not something I will worry about.

(2,682 posts)nobody missed me -- my computer was in the shop for a week, I just got it back Thursday. It's understandable, really. I haven't formed any particular friendships here and I'm not a member of any particular group. I guess you could call me a "sniper poster". I post when the subject matter moves me. Since I get so few replies, I'm really posting for myself -- a way to put my thoughts in order and express them in public. The people I live with don't share the same political positions (one's a Paulbot) so there is little to no discussion of issues at home.

(46,179 posts)I know the answer to that question, since I've gone most of this last winter without checking in.
These days, I'm here to avoid chores, which I urgently need to do NOW, or to check in with a few old cyber friends and see what they are up to. DU as a place to discuss politics left me behind years ago. As a nominal Democrat, more an independently minded well-to-the-left-of whatever the center is, I just don't relate to the partisan stuff; I don't often find anything I have anything to say something about, or if I do, want to share, on the main pages.

(13,920 posts)In fairness, if you were out a day, I would not notice. I doubt I would even notice myself gone if I missed one day. I think the only one I might notice on a one day absence is MFM. But you are one of a few I would notice missing in fairly short order.

(13,920 posts)I wouldn't even notice if I stopped posting for one day.
I wouldn't even expect people would notice after a week. Ive done that before, with no apparent note taken.
After longer, into the months, not sure. I doubt I'm in anyone's top 40, but some of the people here seem to have memory like a elephant shaped supercomputer.

(20,176 posts)I know this because last month my computer suddenly died in the middle of a sub-thread conversation and it took three weeks to repair...and when I came back and posted why I hadn't been around, like 6 people said "I never noticed you were missing."
Geez, thanks peeps!
