I don't. I'm simply curious how much of a minority I'm in. I admit, I watched the Super Bowl the other night, but it was broadcast live on cbssports.com.

(36,304 posts)Tomorrow, I'm going to stop at the phone company office and sign a 1 year contract to upgrade my internet speed from 6/1 Mbps to 30/4 Mbps for which I'll get a free Roku. There's a discount for the first 6 months so the cost over 12 months will average out to be $4.50 a month more then what I'm paying now.
Hopefully, the wife will like it so we can cancel our satellite service which now costs us $75.00 a month.

Haven't had "TV" for about 14 years now and we don't miss the horrendous expense.
It was ridiculous 150 channels and nothing worth watching.

Miss sports most not having tv.
Internet is my view of the World.
I have always been a reader as TV reception was poor and radio reception poor except at night where I lived as a child and live now.

(4,851 posts)There is a lot of free digital TV that is great. Plus, I do enjoy sporting events from time to time. I watch a lot on the internet via Roku for free, but I do use the over the air digital programing often.

(15,220 posts)I don't even have a tv any more. My house was robbed and my television was taken. I've simply chosen not to replace it, and honestly don't seem to miss it that much.
If there's really, really, REALLY something that I want to watch and can't get online, I have a relative that lives near by and I crash her house and watch.

(8,308 posts)Do not miss it one bit. I do have an old Sony Trinitron and player to watch my DVDs and VHS tapes on, which I can also get at my local library.
I saw this thread earlier today and came back to reply. I want to say as often as possible that I no longer find TV relevant. Someone upthread said that many people get offended when you try to tell them that, and I know this to be true. But, seriously, people, blow up your TV! I think you don't realize how it is fucking with your mind.
Thanks, Steve, for the opportunity to speak my mind.

(37,457 posts)I was a tad hesitant about posting this thread, but I reasoned that if I worded it inoffensively, it would be acceptable. I admit that there are some shows that interest me, partially because they are so super popular in the media. I went to go binge watch Game of Thrones, and I balked at the price. I guess in some areas I'm a real cheapskate.
hermetic
(8,308 posts)it will get cheaper. That is one show I would like to see, and I expect I will, someday. My big thing last year was Downton Abbey. They have the 5 seasons at my library and I fell in love with it. I knew this year was the last season so I was thrilled to buy it at the early price of $20. Totally worth it.
I am also into buying Outlander. It's only got one season so far but it is amazing. Never seen anything like that on TV before. I will keep buying it. I'd much rather give my money to one show I really love.
I will admit, I do so want to see Breaking Bad because I've heard so much about it. I will just have to bide my time and keep an eye out for a good deal on it. As I said, I'd rather give money directly to the artists.
steve2470
(37,457 posts)That's good advice about waiting. I didn't even think about the library but I'll check them out too, thanks!

My only question, for those of you bragging about cutting the cord and not watching TV, is have you gotten rid of teh internets so that you don't have any access whatsoever to any of the evils of TV shows? Obviously not, because you are still posting here. I don't think any of you are Amish.
