(23,362 posts)Then the agony begins. Why can't papers organize themselves?

(23,271 posts)haven't committed anything to paper yet, but got over $20K in cap gain distributions (no withholding.) So I'll be shelling out a couple major appendages come April. Ouch!!

(31,401 posts)Won't know the answer for awhile...but suspect we're going to owe something this year.

(3,275 posts)It only took an hour. I get a lot of money back from the federal tax but I owe some on the state tax. I still get more than I owe. I'm just glad that it is over and I don't have to worry about it for another year. Last year, I put it off until April 14th.

(15,812 posts)Meh.
Dh and I dipped into the AMT a bit more this year. It's all good. Taxes aren't a horrible thing- while they support some things I don't approve of, they support far more things I appreciate in this country.
I filed my state taxes already. Small refund coming our way.
My tax bill will likely increase for the next seven years or so as my kids head to college and we start to lose more deductions. We can't deduct much of their college expenses, and eventually we won't be able to claim even the kids. The mortgage interest we pay declines every year as our 15 year mortgage heads towards pay off.
Once one of us leaves the workforce, the tax picture will change again.

(20,210 posts)I always owe some, be cause I set up my withholding that way. I do a dry run to see how much I owe and then deposit enough into my IRA that I get a little refund. You have until April 15th to deposit for the previous year.
