I had a great time today at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in south Mumbai, so I thought I'd share some of the pictures I got.
First, the reason I was there: a mural that an American mural artist came to make with a group of female high school students:
Some details:
And some of the other pieces that were there:
These little teasets are features of Mumbai street food.
An interesting map piece:
Three pieces made from recycled machinery:
(I love this penguin)
A black horse ("Kala Ghoda" means black horse; the neighborhood is named after an equestrian statue that used to be in its center):
A really cool banner piece:
Some hanging baskets that did cool stuff in the wind:
A neat mask tower:
Some animal pieces:
A painted sculpture about brotherhood:
Some kind of fish thing:
A powerful and gut-wrenching piece called "the betrayal":
On a lighter note, a beach themed piece:
A Gandhi made out of recycled plastic. Kind of reminds me of Lichtenstein:
A neat piece on each of Mumbai's seven islands:
A textile piece that the photo doesn't really do justice to. Its multiple layers moved in the wind like a forest:
A rupee sign in socialist-realist style (this is literally in the shadow of the Bombay Stock Exchange):
An environmental piece:
A neat piece riffing on Paris (both Tour d'Eiffel and Pont des Arts) made of recycled cardboard:
A very, very cool piece using mirrors:
And a kind of interesting assemblage:

Who, or what, is that in the center of the mural? It's really lovely.
