Supposed to be good for stuff. I've never had it so can't attest to its taste or health benefits.

On top of their delicious beers, they make kombucha as a non-alcoholic alternative beverage.

Essentially, it's fermented tea. Actually not too bad once you try it.

It's good for your health. It's not non-alcoholic though (though it is unregulated as its alcohol-content is considered to be marginal and a production byproduct), it contains more than a trace amount of alcohol (depending on the producer but around 0.5-2% usually, higher for home-brewed). It's usually flavored with something else because by-itself, it kind of tastes like rotting (collard and mustard mostly) greens and is a bit astringent. That's what the ginger is for...and yes, if that's her flavor addition, it would taste a bit like ginger ale, a little fizzier.

It's fermented in the bottle so with home-brew, I would be careful. While rare, botulism is a risk...if the bottles seem broken or bulgy or like they didn't seal properly...trash.

by which I mean, the day or so it might add to your life-expectancy is probably worth choking down a shot of it daily...you can chase it with a nice ginger ale and mask the taste. It has the added benefit of being an appetite suppressant.

my constant pain just ruins my appetite.

At this point, I'm better off with the red wine...it tastes wonderful and makes life so much easier and more relaxing...

But I am certainly not intolerant when it comes to personal preference. If folks, including my daughter, really want to brew it and drink it, who am I to judge?

Thank you for filling me in. I find it very interesting, even if it isn't for me.

Different strokes...

[div id="container" style="display:inline"]Kombucha is a naturally fermented traditional beverage made from a mother culture and sweetened tea. The mother culture (known as a SCOBY) is a symbiotic colony of healthy yeast and bacteria that has been around for thousands of years. The micro-organisms in the culture break down the sugar and other components of the sweetened tea and create a fizzy, slightly sweet and tart drink. This resulting tonic is high in organic acids and a variety of other compounds that are detoxifying and nutritious to the human body, including gluconic, lactic, and folic acids as well as an assortment of pro-biotics.
