I grew up with a kid of Italian heritage who used to shoot robins, which his mom then made a stew with.

Any other directions this thread might head can only be imagined.

The Italians had a country general store across the highway from my grandparents hunting and fishing resort.

My parents ended up purchasing the Italian's store and operated it from 1938 to 1965.

Anyway when I was 10 or so my Mother told me of the Italians and robins and tasked me with killing robins for robin spaghetti.

I shot and killed 20 or so robins over several months and would clean them and put the birds in the freezer wrapped in foil.

One day my Mother made Robin spaghetti and I have never killed a robin since (and never hunted past age 17 except once in mid my 20s was convinced to buy license and murder grouse.

I understand that killing small songbirds for food is a part of Italian culture.

My robin killing was in northern California in the 1960s.
