Bill's wife...widow now I guess...jeez.
She just called.
Sounds like she's still in shock.
Sounds like an aneurism.
She says he 'bled out ' in the ER.
Shit, I'm in shock.
He and I were like brothers.
Damn.

(54,256 posts)We bought our first house.
Newly weds.
The lady we bought the house from was Bill's aunt.
"My nephew lives next door. You'll like him."
Yes we did.
He showed up the day we moved in.
"You a Scotch drinker?"
"Yeah."
"Come over at 5. I'll feed you some Scotch and then burn some steaks on the grill."
"Deal."
We were in our mid 30s.
Sometimes we'd decide it was a good idea to drink Vodka Stingers* and sit on straight-back chairs in the back yard just to watch the sun come up.
Did I mention that we were in our 30s?
*Equal parts ot chilled vodka and green crème de menthe.

Sudden deaths are so tough on the survivors. Take care of yourself, and remember that there is no timetable for grief.

(22,380 posts)a horror when this happens. I hope as time moves on, an hour or so at a time, you can start to rejoice in how wonderful it was to have him as your best friend.
I know what I'm talking about, just spent 5 days at the hospice bed of one of my very best friends, and held him as he died less than a week ago. I close my eyes, and think of the blessings he brought to my life.

It is all so very sad. As synchronicity goes, this just came into my inbox, and it adds perspective. Will go and upload it and insert it.

(100,076 posts)I definitely know what it feels like - this year I lost someone who I've known and worked with closely for over 15 years to a massive heart attack and it's definitely taken a lot of time to get over it. It is definitely not easy.

(31,389 posts)Of course you're in shock. Sudden deaths are really, really hard on the family and friends.
It's so hard to wish that we'd just had one more visit, one more phone call, one more
chance to be together. Hold tight to the memories of your friendship and may you
have strength to help grieve with and comfort Bill's widow.
Hugs to you.
