Things are not going well for me

I don't know if anyone remembers, but in September I lost my job. Just a few days after, I got sick with a double wammy: Bell's palsy and a nasty leg infection.

I have started at long last my job search. I have some 'irons in the fire' but right now I need help with the bills that are piling up. If I can't pay December rent, I will be homeless. I need ideas.

I hope you have some good prospects for work. Things are very hard for us too right now and I understand how difficult it must be.

If you do and you have either Uber or Lyft in your area, sign on with them. You make your own hours and pay gets put in your checking account weekly.

I'll be applying retail as soon as I get a decent night's sleep. Woke up at midnight -- 3rd night in a row of minimal sleep.

I lost my job end of August, with just 1 day of work in Sept. I postponed looking for work while giving myself a desperately needed break and my home some desperately needed deep-cleaning and get it ready to put on market.

Now I reaching the bottom of my bank account; have to start looking asap. Even here in rural Maine, retailers are hiring. I'll be applying at the new Dollar store that's just 4 mile commute. And further afield at Walmarts and Lowes.

I know also that FedEx hires parttime workers pretty much all the time. Especially this time of year.

Retail is hiring everywhere right now.

Sign up with temp agencies. Sign up with several because they all service different companies and have different leads.

Check Craigslist for jobs, but also for "gigs".

BTW, did you apply for unemployment?

I know the one in my area provides emergency funds for just this type of situation. As others have suggested this is a good time to get part time work in retail or post office and for heavens sake apply for unemployment if you paid into it. While not permanent solutions they may get you over the hump.

While it may not be ideal, retail and service related retail are looking for temp holiday workers. It may only be 6-8 weeks work, but it may help with some bills. It won;t solve your problems long term, but it can help.

If it gets bad, bankruptcy is an option. It is unpleasant, but not the long term stigma some fear.
