Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy granddaughter got accepted into BU today!
We're ecstatic. She was crying for joy on the phone...
She isn't happy at College of Charleston so she wants to go back to Boston. She also applied to BC too (her dad's alma mater). But I think she'll wind up at BU.
Will be majoring in PoliSci and Environmental Science. She has lots of credits for ES as she started out at Charleston as a Marine Biology major so she will have a year and a half of many related courses in that. I think it is an interesting two majors for her...

(63,912 posts)coming up but now, at 20, she's gotten wiser. Her erratic behavior got her thrown out of prep school and she had to finish up high school elsewhere. So she's had some bumps in the road. But she's a good kid and she's worked hard in college.
Oh, and she loves art and is going with me to the Gardner Museum in Boston to see special exhibit on a Renaissance artist nobody has heard about...it will be an upcoming art essay of mine here at DU...great work of art, just superb...

(16,382 posts)My oldest son, 22-y-o, is ADD. He managed to graduate from an extremely rigorous high-school, but college has been a bust so far. He's taken a couple of community college courses but that's it. It's so hard when you know how smart they are with nothing much to show for it. Believe me, your grand-daughter is doing great and no wonder you are so proud of her.

(63,912 posts)I think her expulsion from school was a game changer, it was such a shock. Sometimes that is what it takes. Seeing her parents crying probably shook her up considerable. I thought my daughter thru all that was going to come apart at the seams...

(16,382 posts)Even though it's frustrating and sad for me to see #1-son still dependent on his parents (he still lives with his dad), I know enough to realize he's the one who has to make the changes. I can nag 'til the cows come home but ultimately it's on him. He's never touched drugs. It's just waaaay too many hours on the computer. He's a sensitive soul, a sweet kid. It could be A LOT worse. Love him to pieces.

(9,527 posts)big on political theory rather than more modern political science. For example when I was there a few years ago, there was only one statistics course and it had more students from outside the department than inside the department. It may have changed some in the intervening 7 years, but something for her to note if she is looking for more about political campaigns and statistical analysis of voting etc.
But good for her, both schools are really good (BC better be for my grad school loans).
