To me, STILL yes… Now I know why. Ugh! It's in my genes. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/20/cilantro-aversion-gene-study_n_1901124.html

Bagpipe music, not so much.

"The health benefits of cilantro come from beneficial phytonutrients and antioxidants, especially the flavonoid quercetin. Cilantro is also a good source of dietary fiber and iron, magnesium and manganese.

It's a little-known fact that herbs (and spices) such as cilantro have far greater concentrations of antioxidants than any common fruit or vegetable. Herbs also contain a particularly wide variety of antioxidants as well, which makes them more effective at fighting many different kinds of free radicals."

confirmed that others have the same aversion.

For years, I thought that the dishes hadn't been rinsed properly at some Mexican restaurants and that's why I was getting the soap taste. Then I discovered later that many people think it tastes like soap or dirt.

Now it's all trendy to cover everything in cilantro - even things that would not normally have it. Now, I have to specifically ask that no cilantro be used on whatever I order at a restaurant. It's crazy.

On the other hand, I have an intense aversion to onions and most of the cruciferous vegetables, especially Brussels sprouts. This might also be genetic.

I turned up my nose at it and said "Yuck".

Someone said "You have to develop a taste for it."

I said "Why would I want to develop a taste for something gross?"

When it's sitting there all by itself it can be pretty soapy, but where it is one flavor note among many it isn't soapy, at least to my palate. YMMV, of course.
