Assuming there's a surprise in the new Star Wars movie...(no spoilers)

How long, in this age of social and digital media, will the secret be kept? Back in the day, the secret that Vader was Luke's _________ was probably kept a secret long enough for people to find out in the theater.

I expect if there is a secret plot twist that it will be ruined for serious and casual fans before the film even hits the theater.

That being said, I'll try to get to see it the first few days that it is out, if it hasn't been spoiled by then.

Hoping that it was just a gimmick and that we can see it in the first couple of days.

Avoiding the Japanese trailer. Sounds like it gives too much away.

are not somehow related to the old characters. I imagine even that new droid they have will turn out to be the result of a night of reckless passion that R2D2 and C3PO don't want to talk about.
