We had a neighborhood theater and would go every Friday night. I saw all those hokey old horror movies from the 1950s and '60s. I remember a lot of the Vincent Price movies, too. Those were better quality, as I recall.

And not even at the movie theater, but on TV. Wasn't supposed to watch it, was in 4th grade. Did any way and it scared me to death!

I see now that that's called The Haunting. I may be mixing it up with the Legend of Hell House, but I'm pretty sure it's the older of the two in B&W.

Scared the crap out of me at the time. Saw it again as an adult some years ago and, well, meh...

The one that I remember making an impact on me was the original "The Haunting" (1963). I was probably 8 or so when I watched on TV . I especially remember this scene

I think I peed myself a bit when the head popped out of the boat hull in one of the diving scenes.

If you haven't seen VOTD, don't read the Wiki -- total spoiler.

I was too young to understand what HHSC was about -- just remember lots of dark, shadowy scenes and suspense.

I saw it on tv when I was 7 or 8 - had no idea what it was or who the actors were, but certain scenes stuck with me. I looked it up years later to find out about it.

Came in during the wedding scene which ends very, very surprisingly especially if you don't know the name of the movie is Homicidal.

I was just a kid but we got into the theater somehow. I think a friends brother was working and he let us in. I don't think I slept for a week

I saw this unedited on TV awhile ago and was amazed at how little blood there actually was. The number of times Jamie Lee-Curtis could have easily escaped or actually killed Michael Myers is hilarious.

Invaders from Mars (1953) I was 9 when I saw this movie, and I eyed my family warily for a very long time afterwards.

(full movie - incorrectly tagged on YT as "Invasion from Mars&quot

It Came From Outer Space (1953) I wanted to marry Richard Carlson when I grew up, because...I don't know.

Them! (top-grossing movie of 1954) It was at Christmastime when I saw this movie. I’d just turned 10. I remember looking up at the sky from my bedroom window on Christmas Eve as I’d always done, but this time I wasn’t looking for the Christmas Star. I was looking for giant freaking flying ants. I was never quite right after seeing this movie.
