The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm spending tonight with Grigori Rasputin and Jeff Lynne!!!!
Found a lone bottle of Old Rasputin hiding in the back of my fridge behind the bottles of Honest Ice Tea that I bought on sale ages ago but never drank. And just got the Jeff Lynne's ELO Live in Hyde Park Blu-Ray today.
I cannot wait for this guy to tour!! I have loved Electric Light Orchestra music probably even longer than I have loved Led Zeppelin music. So far a great Video - 'Can't Get it out of my Head' just came on!
Yummy!!!

(54,436 posts)The one time I ever indulged myself with a work of art was when I had a shot to buy the last portrait of Rasputin painted from a live sitting.
Theodora Krarup was a Danish painter who was a GF of the mother of Nikolai II, the last Czar of Russia. She painted portraits of most people who used to hang around the royal family. She stayed on after the revolution, until Stalin gave her an ultimatum: become a Soviet citizen or leave. She was so incensed that she destroyed all of her paintings still in her possession and moved back to Denmark. Obviously, some of her paintings were by then in the possession of others, and one of them, a portrait of Rasputin completed in December, 1916, days before he was killed, escaped destruction. It landed in Dallas somehow or other several years ago. As someone who was always interested in this period of Russian history, I splurged, and bought it. Not wanting to risk transporting it to Europe, and knowing the European penchant for seizing things from people when governments here feel like it, I keep the painting in Dallas. So, I get to visit with a smiling Rasputin whenever I go back home.
