National Cherries Jubilee Day Cherries Jubilee Day is set aside to celebrate a dessert that takes cherries and turns them into something spectacular. Fresh cherries are cooked in a sweet sauce into which warmed liqueur, usually kirsch or fruit brandy, is mixed and set alight before being spooned over a chilled bowl of vanilla ice-cream while still burning with a blue flame. This show-stopping flambéed dish is credited to the famous chef, Auguste Escoffie, who created it for the 1897 Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria. Cherries Jubilee became a big hit across the Atlantic and was a favourite in American restaurants of the 1950s and 60s. Today it has come back into fashion and Cherries Jubilee Day is the ideal time to discover this dramatic and delicious dish. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/cherries-jubilee-day/Punctuation Day The importance of proper punctuation forms the center of an ongoing debate, where the necessity of clear and precise communication is held up against the need for an evolution language. Punctuation Day argues that the correct use of apostrophes, semicolons and other punctuation is critical if youre to get your (rather than, say, youre) message across. If youve spotted any examples of bad punctuation, take Punctuation Day as an opportunity to share them with your friends to promote awareness. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/punctuation-day/

National Punctuation Day on Thursday happens to be all about those important little marks. Founder Jeff Rubin, a former newspaper reporter living in California, saw a need for a holiday to express why its important to keep your colons and semicolons clear.
Rubin admits he started the observance in 2004 because of frustration, specifically targeting incorrect uses of punctuation, capitalization, and spelling in newspapers.
Ive always been a punctuation fan, Ive always been very good at punctuation, he said. I think its important. I think it adds clarity and meaning to the written word.
An Ohio woman had a 2014 parking ticket dismissed, Rubin said, by successfully arguing a law in the village of West Jefferson, Ohio, was poorly punctuated.
The law listed several types of vehicles that could not be parked for more than 24 hours, including a motor vehicle camper. A comma was intended between the words vehicle and camper, but the woman, Andrea Cammelleri, successfully argued her pickup didnt fit the definition as written.
