If you want to look it up, it is probably on the NYT website.
Hubby as usual is geographically talented. He got it. He rolled his eyes when I told him my guess (not even CLOSE!).

(63,912 posts)Hubby just got it by a process of elimination and knowing where shit is on a map (not me). Why am I so challenged geographically? I guessed a Sea that was not anywhere near it...
But I keep hoping...

(63,912 posts)I had never heard of the one it is, altho I knew of the other one becsause of the famous battle in WW2. Then hubby placed the island (named after the sea I guess) and it went from there. He has a mind that "places" stuff on a map. I am hopeless...

(2,560 posts)But I'm seriously impressed your husband knew about it. I'm guessing (from your monicker) that you're a yankee from Connecticut. How's that for brilliance?
Just as an aside, how do you pronounce "Connecticut"? I first wrote it as "Conneticut" (no "c" in the middle) because that's how I pronounce it as a dumb furriner.
I know that many people get "Nevada" slightly wrong to.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)Nevada with the second syllable as in "bad." I used to say Nevahda. I had great aunts named Vada and Zona after the two newer states added to the union in the earlier part of the 20th century.

The sea between Australia and NZ is, obviously, much smaller. So, we refer to it as the ditch.
